Visual Strut Year Identification

Anyone have any insight on a way to know what year front struts I have? Maybe by the spring perch style or a length?

Anyone have a set of struts from a 81+ 12A car that can take a few measurements for me?

I need the length of the strut tube starting at the cast knuckle and the length of the insert that goes with the strut.

That's the first time I've heard that question. To my knowledge, the only different ones were 84, 85 GSL-SE's, but they fit on an 81... hmm...

Anyone else?

That is a good question...

The '79-80 struts have a longer stroke, I know that, but I'm unaware of a source that has practical measurements. I think that externally, the strut housings are basically identical, the difference in stroke comes from a shorter compartment for the strut cartridge.

Unless you have a '79 or an '80, you don't have to worry. Any and all aftermarket strut cartridge for a 1st gen will fit all '81 to '85 cars.
