VIN decoding
I am going to go look at an 85 rx7, but I don't know if it is a base model, gs, or a gsl. All I know that it is a 5 spd car and a 12A motor. I was trying to decode the VIN using the 2nd gen decoding thing that I found. I also would like to avoid using carfax if I can just figure out how to decode it.
Thanks

You know, I don't remember a chart that told you the model by vin #. The only identifier that gives info in the vin is for the engine which would be the 8th character.
1 for 12a and 2 for the 13b.
Maybe someone else has more detailed info besides what we already have in the FAQ section about how the differences between the models which might be your best bet.

go to http://blackdragonauto.com/icatalog/rx/t.asp, look at the rx7 catalogue. In the first few pages, it shows you how to decode VIN's
