...even if snow DID come through the vents, I emphisize that the vents open between rad and engine, not over the engine, in this design.

The mesh will be fine, but not so fine it's difficult to wash off. Too fine a mesh will catch small leaves, twigs, etc that fall on your car if you park under a tree and hold them there even through a carwash.

I'll be interested to see if there is any visable vibration or fluttering so to speek when the hood is on the car at freeway speeds. That is my only concern.

...and that was one reason why I elected to go 3mat for the top surface and 2 for a substructure. The downside is the hood won't save a lot of weight, but it'll be rigid, secure, functional, and sexy.

Wow, really. 3 layers of chopped mat for the 'skin' ? your right, it's going to be heavy, but strong. how many layers is the 'bucks' 'skin' ? to bond the two pieces together(top skin)(sub-structure) are you using resin(s) ? how do the edges look?
nice and sharp ? and any gel-coat in the mix ? your getting there.......

Thebuck, or sculpted prototype, is actually made from a chopped up metal hood with a ton of bondo, styrofoam, and FRP to create the shape from which the mould is being made.

we have to

a) make a satisfactory mold of the upper and lower halves with integrated recesses for the metal mounting points for hood latches and hinges

b) Pull a few examples from the mold and inspect for any bubbles or design flaws

c) Correct the molds or layup techniques accordingly to eliminate any problems that may have surfaced in (b)

d) install and paint a hood on Carmen, my mew GSL-SE, for photo purposes

So we're a few weeks away yet.

Cool!

My -SE, Elanor (no flames please), blew out a water seal on the #2 rotor, so she's up at CP for a new engine...

You still making those cupholder/stereo trim kits?

yeah, newer designs though. The cupholder tweak is still causing probs so I was thinking of making a simpler trigauge/stereo mount sans cupholder

Cupholder one is still on the way - but I've had requests for a simpler gauge & stereo mount

Glad you're back D'Arcy!

I need cupholders... when I get my car back from CP...

How come you never post in the Cannuck forum anymore?

Nope. I really thought they'd be ready a month ago, but there have been delays by my glassman and by quality assurance. I want to be sure the finished product is something I'll be proud to have on my car, and proud to have those of you who buy one enjoying yours as much as I enjoy mine.

It comes down to me being picky, really. I don't wanna sound like a jerk and say "They'll be ready when they're ready" - but trust me, the second they're ready I'll be on here braggin about it!
