TX Vac Leak Question

1984 Rx7 N/A 12A Sport Model.

I searched and did not find a suitable answer. Vac Guru's to my rescue!

I am under the impression that the vac advance for the A/C (Throttle Opener) is of the diaphragm design and should not leak vac. when the A/C switch is not engaged because the diaphragm should be shut. CORRECT?

Reason being is my car abruptly dies when the choke gets about 3/4 closed. I have no friggin clue about the tune of the carb. Unfortunately I cannot seem to get the car to warm up and run without the choke long enough for me to adjust the carb and working by myself I seem to need 3 hands and 5 eyeballs.

My question being. Would a Vac Leak at the throttle opener for the A/C cause such a symptom. I need to get the carb working enough to tune the damned thing This is my first experience ever with a Nikki. Honestly pulling the carb and doing a rebuild is not an option for another week or two. I currently have a McCullough Boxer 4 engine under rebuild on my bench. (78hp boxer 4 that goes into a single engine aircraft, and commands all of my attention at the moment)

Any and all help / comments would be great.

Thanks,

There is a solenoid that cuts vacuum on and off to the throttle opener.
Even with the AC on, and the solenoid open, the diaphragm shouldn't be leaking.

I don't think water is a good idea to use to find a vac leak. Use starter fluid spray it where you suspect the leak to be if the engines idle raises you've found your culprit.

74RX4 is probably correct. This hose always seems to go eventually and its difficult to see or hear a vacuum leak beacuse where its located. You will either have to pull to examine it or feel it and be careful not to burn yourself if the care is hot.

When this hose is bad, the car will not idle or run very well at all.
