IIRC, he'd have to be in a mod class. At least in the SCCA.

A V8 RX7 will put you into E-Mod. Obviously this is a very high dollar class, and It's not seriously competative. Although so far, the 3 SCCA events I've been to I've won E-mod due to a lack of any real compatition, but on a nation level there's no chance. I know when I started this that I would remove any chance of being in IT, spec 7, or SCCA really. I built it as a fun weekend car and something to open track. The car sill has some work to do before it gets taken out. It's still on stock suspension for one. I'm working out a deal to buy a defunct ITS RX-7 with suspension and cage soon. If that happens, I'll be tracking the car sooner than I hoped. I'll keep things updated. Thanks though for the compliments. It's been an awsome car, and I'm extreamly pleased with how it's turned out so far. It still has tons of work to go though. Projects are never finished.

That's a GSL subframe, flipped 180 degrees. The GSL-SE's will work as well, but you have to cut off a little bit because the 13B sits further forward, so when you reverse the X-member the mounts will contact the steering.

I must say, I agree. That's clean. **ahem-a ******* travesty-ahem**(see sig for details)

Nice job though. How was the handeling with the new engine?
I'm trying really hard to be positive

i don't condem people who swap american engines in to a rx-7! but in my opinion mazda did not take the trouble everybody else had and put it in the car for no reason i believe they put it there to be different and to show that you dont have to have pistons to go fast i love my rotary its got 156,786 on it's stock engine, carb,etc.. (just a couple of rust spots gas gauge flaw and a small idle problem other than that i have owned it for 3 years now and it has been the best car i have ever owned!

Hey, for all you v8 lovers, there's an 85 GSL with a v8 in it on ebay that looks a lot like the one 85GSL302 has (brown, like mine, which has its 12A still intact). The v8 is all installed and it comes with a spare automatic transmission. Of course there are still some details that need fixing, like the tach and speedometer don't make any sense, and you'll have to pick it up with a trailor. But for those of you who have just been aching for a v8, take a look!

Handles great, read above.

As for Supra TT's, why spend the extra money to install a motor with less power that fits worse and requires tons more work? This isn't about doing it for the sake of doing it, it's about ending up with a better car when it's finished. And that's exactly what I have done.

Oh yeah, and I called up Felix Wankle, and the CEO of Mazda. They both told me the only reason rotory engines exist is to be swapped with V8's to **** you all off. Sorry, turns out Mazda wasn't trying to be different, they just dislike ignorance as much as I do.

I have to agree that does look really good. I'm just sold on the challenge of building/learning on these engines. I have already had my fun with pistions, my last project car was a 65 chevelle, 454 bored out 30 over, 578 lift 308 duration cam, 12.5 pop ups, it's all the same now, been there done that.

85gdl 302, What tranny are you using? Do you know how much HP and Torque your making?

You car looks sweet. I'm on my 10th RX-7 and have decided that this is my last one. I Love them and all but It is much harder to make power with them.

My current car is an 85 base model with GSL-SE suspension and ported T2 motor with stock turbo, E6K, FMIC and a bunch of other expensive stuff. I have about 5K in it and I should be making around 250 RWHP. It's an Awsome car but my next car will have a V8.

Actually, I'm seriously thinking about getting a 99+ lightning. Just something about a truck thats faster than most sports cars that makes me smile.

At least you went with the right motor and didn't use some GM crap

Nice car,
Mike

You want a 2001+ lightning, and additional 40 hp stock, and the nicer lights and tails.

I love Lightnings, but two seats is annoying after a while.

I got the 4 Door Lightning.

Now that is the thing to do, seriously. I've always kindof liked the chevelle and gto, and those cars are supposed to have pistons, y'knowwww?

Why can't people just be smart like brian here and use big block engines in big block cars? .............make sense?

Brianw, got any pics of that chevelle?

I like the HD's but I like the sporty look of the Lightnings. Plus my Fiance has a sedan, If I need more room thats what I can take.

I don't think it matters if I get a pre 01. I doubt it would stay stock too long in my hands.

In the November issue of 5.0 Mustang they got 60 RWHp and 115 lb/ft of torque for less than $1K in mods. They ran a 13 flat at the 1/4 with those mods. All they did was a ram air kit , chip, and SC pully.

Those things are badass!

In a perfect world I'll get my lightning, have my turbo first gen, and talk the lady into getting a WRX.

excitingleopard Unforunatley I move around alot and have lost alot of things those pics included. It wasn't a real beauty or anything I spent all my money on the profromance side and hadn't done anything to the body which I bought for $300 without motor or trans. When I got separted to my previuos wife she told her boyfreind that he could have whatever he wanted of it so I gave it away before he could get to it. The police said until the divorce was final it was technically both of ours and althought she couldn't sign the title away anything up to that was legal!

Mine is running 13.3 on street tires with what you stated and a tranny shift kit. Plenty more there if I wanted it, - but it is my DD.

Great minds think alike!!
Although I was thinking of an STI, EVO or S2000 for her.
(Too bad she wants a slushbox )
