Very iteresting. I never really looked at the 8 from a side view like that before. But the shape and location of the glass in comparison to the rest of the body and the over all side profile look a lot the same.

I just took an FB and photoshopped on the lights and wheels of an 8, scaled down to suit the body, then painted it red and added a few new contours

Good job Manntis.
The only thing if it is to be the Next Rx-7, it has to keep the ever traditional "pop up" lights.
But again, very nice job!
Are you getting an "8" as well?

Got Boost?
Not bad... nice photochop
Couple suggestions: move the leading edge of the windshield toward the nose (rake it more), so that the A-pillar meets the body where the door starts. If its too raked, elongate the cabin. The cabin just looks too far back for a modern car.
Lose the black trim around the window, making the window free standing, and lose the rain gutter.
Tuck the windsheild wipers below the hood level, and ditch the vent panel. Most modern cars have a hidden vent that is partially covered by the hood, where the wipers are partially hidden from view.

thanks, but then I wouldn't have the same proportions as the 1st gen. The windshield is already aggressively raked on our cars, and with a compound curve yet.
The raingutter is gone - the black you see is window surround.

np, its just a suggestion.
As for the rake, the windshield isn't that agressive stock. Another inch or two wouldn't change the proportions much, but would modernize the car a bit. Mazda took the rake from 37*on the FB to almost 45* IIRC on the FC.
