BMW "cheated" because their class was required to use a intake restrictor plate. Larger engines take better to a restrictor plate. The porsche GT3, which the m3 used to beat up on, has a larger engine so after the restrictor plate rule was enforced the GT3 started dominating the m3. So BMW made a m3 GTR with a large v8. I believe it is a 4.0 L and started whooping the pants off every one. But to compete in their lemans class there are rules for how many cars you have to sell of that model and with a price tag of $500,000 they knew they would never reach the quota. So BMW had to leave but left before they were "officially" asked to change the car or leave.

I disagree. The Rover/Buick V-8 would be a great choice for a swap.
I do agree however that BMW motorsports are dirty rotten cheaters. Though it was a good PR move to suggest that the cars were banned for being to fast to race, not for cheating.

i was just joking about that being the only v8 worthy of a swap. bmw motorsports might have made a good pr move but most people know the truth about their cheating ways But dagon if that car doesn't sound insane

a 1uz Lexus 4.0 v8 would be my choice, as you can pick them up for about $1000 with around 100k
$1000 seams like a steal for a DOCH 6 bolt main (thats right, SIX BOLT MAINS) that is capable of 8000 rpm stock.
they dont make a huge amount of power stock, but N/A they can make about 300-350 and turbo they can get into the 700s with good parts.
Ive been thinking of putting one in a old 77 Celica GT

The 1uz is a fantastic engine. If you look, you can find them for much less than $1000, around $500-$600. Check out the www.lextreme.com forums. People are stuffing those into all kinds of vehicles.

im a tech at a lexus dealershop and i kinda looked at the 4.0 v8's as being pos's other than being reliable. i NEVER would of thought people do that kind of tuning to those motors.
