MN V-mount intercooler/radiator; mocked up. and some other stuff.

Dropping in for my quarterly update on my Project. Finished a bunch of stuff the last couple of weeks. Now that its finally cool enough to start working again.

Got the rear axle completely assembled, minus the sway bar because the mounts were incorrect. Also started on the fuel cell supports and pump fixture. Much work left on fuel cell fitment.

The V-mount is nearing completion. The main supports for the radiator and intercooler are fitted, and just require some cosmetic finishing and paint. the sheet metal shrouds still need to be fabbed. Overall I am very happy with how it is turning out.

You'll notice that the intercooler sits quite high in the engine bay. It will be fully vented and fitted to the hood. Should look pretty killer; instead of a front mount sticking out behind the bumper, Ill have one sticking out under the hood. Makes fore some REAL short intercooler pipes too.

103 views and no comments, booo!

anyways, finished up with the shrouding and got most of the front disc brake stuff on.
Next step is to clean and paint the newly fabbed radiator and fuel pump mounts, as well as the brake booster, then I can run brake hardlines. I am still debating whether to run hard or soft fuel lines on the chassis.

looks nice man. what size rad did you end up getting to fit? the fb is a pretty tight fit for a v-mount. glad to see someone else doing it.

Subscribed. I'll be doing this next year. Great to see someone already ahead of me!

Any chance you could post dimensions/brands of your IC, Radiator, and your custom bracket?

Amazing work so far. Definitely looking forward to watching your progress on this.

The radiator is a generic Chevy style, 22*19, intercooler is 12*24 (I think). I'll be pulling the mounts for paint, and ill take some picks. The mount fits to the bottom of the radiator and bolts to a suspension bolt that comes up though the radiaus ARM/sway bar mount. The lower radiator outlet had to be cut down to clear the swaybar. The intercooler sits atop with brackets on the dad and front cowl. The cowl had to be trimmed. The shrouds on the sides are hand fanned from alluminum and bolt to the factory shroud holes and some bungs I welded to my bracket.

The intercooler DOES NOT clear the hood, and that is by design, the hood will be cut and intercooler visible. The front edge of the ic OS about even with the hood, and slopes down. Should look killer.

That is going to look soooo mean. V-mount is always the way to go. Great work.

The entire car will be nothing but Black and metal, with the exception that the wheels which will be bronze with a stainless lip. I honestly have taken a lot of design cues from some of the custom choppers I see tv. One shop in particular that has inspires me is Hardcore choppers in Germany. They did one of their gran prix chassis' in all flat black and stainless. And it looks so cool. I think the car should flow and match, hood open or closed.

got everything painted last night. Im going to add some insulation, and reassemble tonight or tomorrow and take some more detailed pictures of the assembly for those that are interested.

That being said, this is a very custom install, and a different radiator, even with the same basic dimensions, would probably have a different design. But I hope the info helps anyone trying to build a v-mount

Got the basic v-mount finished today. Needs a bit of sealing here and there, but much of that has to be done with the full body on the car. Some detailed pictures for the people interested. Everything fit real nice and snug on the final check assembly.

Also got the brake master and booster painted. Plus fabbed a simple bracket for the rear proportioning valve, and ran the attaching line. I'm Planning on having brake hydraulics done tomorrow.

More pics. Temporarily mounted the oil filter mount for reference when I'm running the pass side line. I'm liking the look and feel already and I don't even have the engine in. I'm planning some unique fuel and electrical hookups for a clean look.

I still have not yet decided if I'm going to run black nylon line with nickle AN hose ends or stainless braid with nickle.

anyone know how to clean up the resevior bottles, so its nice and white like the new master. I guess it will turn a bit yellow with the brake fluid. But I cant seam to get them totally clean.

Finished Brake hydraulics; lines are fitted with billet clips, but stainless bolts need to be added. I am marginally happy with my bending on the job, although I think the master and modulator turned out clean. Got my big *** oil filters too; I expect to have a total capacity around 10 qts, as the double filter holds near 3. In addition, i got the motor up and stripped down. Some cleaning, painting and minor alterations to the shifter, but otherwise, nothing big going on here.

Definitely one bad *** looking FB when it's finished. Also love seeing another MN guy on here, makes me feel like all the FB's aren't in Cali or down south.

Setup looks awesome so far, good luck and I'll be keeping an eye on it.

As far as the whitening of the bottles, I haven't found a good way yet. I've tried sanding, polishing, stuff like that and haven't found a solution yet. A fine grit sandpaper gets it close but not back to the nice plastic white it was originally.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I believe the resevoirs have to be chemically cleaned. I was thinking possibly hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, light bleach or something to that extent. I don't have any pics of the car painted, as only the engine bay and underbody have been refinshed.

Drivetrain and chassis fuel lines should be in by this weekend. Then need to order AN stuff to finish oil and fuel.

Motor is IN!!! Im so excited, been awhile since its been supported by the car and not sitting on a crate. Also threw on the water pump stuff to do a quick clearance check on things. Looks like some minor massaging of the front cover and water pump housing is in order, but its really close. Plus i put some edging on the radiator shrouding, which cleaned it up alot.

Also, I accidentally used the 12A to 13B conversion engine mount, and with new new SE subframe, The motor hits the mount bushing. No Biggie, Ive got a SE mount so Ill clean that up quick, paint it, and swap it in. Other than that, it went in like Butter.

few more motor pics. Threw on the manifolds for mock up, no gaskets yet; things are coming on and off a lot. Finished modding the water pump housing and drilling and tapping for sensors and gauge senders. Everything is looking really great. I also smoothed down and painted the factory fuel rails. Probably will never be seen, but thats how I roll. Fabbed and painted the fuel line mount as well and cleaned all the original AN line in a Cuda steam cleaner at work; they look fresh as new.

Tomorrow looks like it may be the last warm day for months, so hopefully I can get a few more things mocked up and post some more pics.

really moving along here. got most of the fuel lines run, and and got rest of oil planned out. Ran the main chassis feed line to the bracket, mounted the fuel block, and ran all lines from the block to the rails to the regulator and back to the chassis bulkhead connectors. Need to order up a fuel pressure gauge tap, and a few more 6an fittings.

I also got the machining finished on the oil pedestal and fit the transdapt adapter to it. Really liking how this is all coming together. need to order some 8an for the filter adapter and some 10an for the cooler. I also plan on ordering the intercooler piping so i can get that in place to make sure I don't fab up something that gets in the way.

anyways, some more pics.

Finished running the fuel system, except for the return fitting at the cell; got the wrong fitting. Partially ran the oil filter lines, still need to run the oil cooler lines. Just about done with the engine and plumbing portion of this rebuild. Electrical is next; full custom universal wiring harness. Not tucked, but very discrete.

I've also got a very cool setup planned for the headlights. It involves projector assemblies from a 2010 GMC Acadia, and a 12v linear motor designed for basic robotics. Ill have some preliminary pics soon. Winter is creeping in here though, and work may stop soon till spring.

Arcadia huh?? Halo projector headlights if I'm not mistaken... I've been thinking about a similar project myself for mine - would like to switch the originals out for some cool aftermarkets like that.

Interested to see, loving the thread
