Urgent!
Okay, this is odd, and reveals further my stupidity
I was in the process of removing my dash, and came across the little gas switch thingy.
I was like 'cool, that's how I open the gas lid thingy' and when I pressed it, it doesn't have the little click feel. Cant open gas now Anyone have an extra?

well, elaysian. you got a second gen right? the first gens have a clicking feeling and they are electronic.
you sure the switch is bad, or did some wires cross? i'm sure i have one. but i'm a ways away. you should be able to find one in any junk yard car for real cheap. you might also check the selenoid at the tank also. mine went out and i just replaced it. good luck.

Well on the 84-85's the switch is on the lower inst panel, left of the steering wheel. You pull it not push it. The hatch opener button is a push one. And if it doesnt work theres a manual release for the gas door. You have to reach around the back side of the gas door thru the hatch and feel for it. Its a little pull lever.

As long as there's another way to get to it
It's in the same place as you described, Carl, but it's a switch just like the hatch. It's supposed to click just like the power windows, isn't it?

With people vouching for him for good, I have nothing against him. I had never seen anything GOOD about him, and only bad. I'll help you get your record back on track, man.
The thing is, to a lot of people, the ONE mishap seemed sort of like a big mishap. The biggest thing to ME was the total lack of communication. PM me with the address to send the money, Gregs.

So urgent, emergency
Emer... emer... emer...
It's urgent"

Maybe if it was a puller I wouldn't be having this problem Any way of converting it to some other way? Even like on most cars where you just pull it open? The root of this problem came from me not even being able to get to the switch, so I don't even think buying a new switch would help me, since I wouldn't be able to install it (God bless my stupidity )
It's JUST like the power window switches, even the way it's assembled. I know this because when I messed up the switch on my driver's side power window, I found some springs afterward. It had the same problem, just loosely moved, didn't click at all. And now, I've found a spring on the floor by where the gas tank switch is. Damn these modern technological dealies like the gas tank switch, lol.

For such an urgent matter, I sure did seem to take a while to get pics O_O
BTW, still haven't figured it out, or where this emergency release switch is. The manual makes it seem to be out in the open.

There isnt a manual release. The only way to release it manually is to actually reach back behind there with the driver rear speaker grill panle off and manually move it. Most likely what happened is that it got rusty and is now stuck. Same thing with mine. You can take it off but not until you get the fuel door open. I can take a pic of what it looks like and send it to you on msn sometime.

It may not bee the switch that has gone bad, before you replace the switch pull it out of the dash and check it with a multi meeter for voltage.
The solinoid that actuates the opener could have gone bad. That happend to me.
It is easy to replace, but had to find the part.
My guess is that click that you hear is the actuator.
Any way the long and the short of it is check the switch first.
YOu need to reach behind the carpet that comes down at the back and behind the rear wheel well cover and you will feel the release leaver, its just a thin flat metal bar.
Good luck
