Thanks for the help. I figured out what it is by using my power window switch as a dummy. It is a little spring that goes between the plastic switch and the little circuit board thingy. I pulled it off the windows switch, and now it does the same thing, just a limp button.

Did you get the manual release at least? Anthrax is right, flip up the carpert and reach in behind toward the cover. (No need to take off the speaker grill or anything). You should be able to feel the solenoid, and the release is a little metal tab sticking straight up from there. Pull it back to pop the cover...
