Upgrading my First GEN

Just picked up my Rx-7 Last month. It is an 83 GSL. Everything is stock.

I want more power!!! What do you suggest I do first? (IE Exhaust, Intake, etc....)

And what are some websites to pick those items? What items have the most bang for the BUCK.

Thanks
David Pugh

Exhaust is always the first thing to do. Although you can do pre-exhaust work like rats nest gutting.

What Pratch said.

Racing Beat makes some of the better exhausts for our cars. They sell two different headers. They also sell complete exhausts. I have the full streetable exhaust and it rocks. Their webpage is www.racingbeat.com. Check them out.

well removing the rats nest, wont give you any power, it will just clean things up a bit.

Ok, now I have a question. Everyone has suggested Racing Beat - but their site specifically says that they aren't highway legal in California. So, what options are available to those of us in CA, as far as exhaust?

Not much!! You can use the Racing Beat mufflers If you want some power the leagle way. you will have to swap in a later model motor. If you use a 13b turbo and have it certified, that is an easy 200+ rwhp and 100% leagle.

For those of you that don't care about leagle, look at this thread

I don't want to swap engines - I just wanna work with what I've already got! There's got to be SOMETHING I can do that'd still be legal ...

They make a header thatll mate to the stock cat. Should still pass the sniff test since the precats only work when the car is cold. Call mazdatrix, theyre in CA and would know the real deal.

Oh and dpugh, since this is YOUR thread, exhaust first (RB full system, purchased thru mazdatrix), anything else will compliment it. Also the emissions removal will be a good idea to start cleaning things up. Click on pratchs sig for our DIY guide.
