update: gas smell in coolant

i have sense fixed the problem for about 2-3 weeks now! no real big issues execpt one all of my coolant isnt returning from the overflow back into the radiator. it apears that roughly about just the top isnt full and all i got to do is fill it by pulling off the over flow bottle and pour a cup or so back in and everything is dandy. i have yet to get a coolant low light durring start up when i dont add from the over flow, which is most of the time. is this normal. i know that Scott said that the coolant wont flow back in to the radiator until it reaches below atmisheric pressure. i have let the car sit for 2 days and still no dice. would the cooling system draw the water back in once the car starts to run and that is why i dont get a light?

if theres a leak in the cooling system, the return doesnt work, ie the bottle will fill up and not empty. the leak can be small, and dont overlook the hose between the overflow and the radiator

if you dont see any leaks (and you may not, if its small) id recomend a pressure test of the cooling system.
