Unknown noise please help!

Hey guys, I recently bought an 85 GSL and it seems to be making a weird noise. can anyone Identify it for me? It happens between 2k-3k rpm. Thank you!

That sure sounds like something in the interior. Could be something in the dash. A bad radio install or even the speedo. Disconnect the speedo cable at the trans and take it for a drive. Make sure to secure the end you take out of the trans though.

Speedo cables are NLA, so be careful and don't lose it! I had a grinding noise from the back the speedometer at one time after the little plastic clip that holes the cable to the back of the speedo came loose. Once you get the hang of reaching your hand up in there, it's easy enough to remedy.

Remove the speedo cable from the transmission and cluster. Clean and lubricate. I would put some plastic safe grease in the speedo gearing.
