Hey i got a series 3 1985 rx7 and the rear u-joint wobbles a fair bit, so i went down to the car joint, and ask for the uni for it, so i get it bring it home, drop the tail-shaft out and the bloodly one it looks like the caps have been welded in? Like what the hell, can anybody tell me if this is normal, or what is goin on?

They are replaceable but you have to take it to someone who knows what they are doing. I had the u-joints on my 85 replaced this spring. I took mine to a driveshaft specialist. They cut the old joints off and re-installed ones that are replaceable. It cost $50 per joint. Now, if one goes bad it will be much easier and cheaper to replace. See if you can find a drive shaft shop near you. I have no idea how easy or hard that may be in Australia.

Good Luck!
It can be done.

mmmmmmmm well i guess ill see what i can find, stupid drive shaft, hopefully it fixes the problem i got. The car seems to be vibrating alot from the rear and making an annoying whine/hum when in gear and i accelerate, doesn't make it when im just rolling, but still vibrates? So i was thinking the rear uni, it has alittle play in it. Maybe it needs balancing to.

Thanks

Also, one place down here has a special press that they can replace the u-joints. I just got mine welded on though.
