How noisy is that pump? Friend of mine purchased one for his SA. Hasn't installed yet, that will be a fun job

Update:

So the project hasn't been shelved, but it has definitely been slow in accumulating parts. Other projects on the car took priority, but I took some time to completely update the list to include parts that I have, and parts that I need.

I managed to get a set of rotor housings, irons, and a front cover from a 12a that I had lying around, though the Rotor Housings will be JHB'd and the Irons will be resurfaced and re-nitrided. I'm getting a pair of rotors off a fellow forum member, and I purchased all the stuff that goes inside the front cover except the high-flow oil pump. So I just need an e-shaft and I'll have the *main* engine parts.

It's all the little stuff that really adds up quick.

Most of the stuff on page 3 I hope to get from another 12a I may be buying, so it won't cost me the Mazdatrix prices that I've got listed there. That should save some real money.

But this should be the definitive list of what someone would need to completely build an engine from scratch.

I'm going to point out the flywheel on that link appears to be a Kennedy modded VW flywheel for use in a rotary powered VW. http://www.rotaryengineillustrated.c...ly%20Wheel.jpg

Wow... I hadn't actually referenced any of the pictures.. just the text!

I noticed a few other things, like an oil temperature sender, that I don't have.

But it's a good starting point for reference to all the pieces.

if i missed this.. my bad but what brand rebuild kit are you going to use? atkins?

man you dug DEEP for that!

as my post in that thread indicates, that car did get at least 22mpg, it made it the 380ish miles to la on 1 tank of gas.

i did get a chance to drive it, steady cruise under 4000ish rpms, it would buck, but under acceleration it pulled harder than my gsl-se with working 6 ports, from 2000-10,000rpms.

i think the exhaust on it was less than ideal, as it was a true dual, with 2.5" pipes, so its not collected, and 2.5" is kinda big. BUT the car was quiet.

inside the thing the loudest noise was the holley fuel pump.

Yeah, I'm going with an Atkins kit. I've heard a lot of good things about them and Dan has been a great help on a lot of things, so I figure it's a good choice.

so how has this ultimate rebuild been coming along?
my rebuild just finished and its so great to be driving her again! and so much fun too!
i still need to read your list when i have more time and hope to also see some pics of the build in the near future! good luck!
