Well today I was cleaning up my car and I noticed the cover on the voltage regulator was pretty nasty. So I removed and painted it and forgot about it.
So I start my car up to do some tuning, while tuning it I notice I forgot to put the voltage regulator cover back, so stupid me I go and attempt to the put the cover back on... with the car still running... ZAP
I ground the cover agienst the internals of the voltage regulator.. I quickly shut the car off and look for any blown fuses' etc.. every thing looked ok.. I put he cover back on and start it up...
Well not everything is ok; all my warning lights stay on and my tach is now working as the volt meter full time (reminder 79-80 rx7's have the volt meter as part of the tach and is at use only at start up)! and it's reading 14volts at idle?!!?

did I blow the voltage regulator?

upgrade your alt to internal style regulator! you want one?$20.00 for 65 amp, its real easy to hook up too , 2 wires and your done! then you can throw away the volt reg.!

 

Uhmmm, Where at, dude! I want one of those for 20 bucks!

 

IF I come down friday... SOLD.... otherwise I want to get my car driving first, so seeing I can't get a new voltage regualtor for a week (both pepboys and kragen).. I'm gonna hit the junkyards tommorow morning before work and get one for a few bucks

did the 80 have an externally regulated alt? cause i dont think mine has the box...
