U joint question

I have an 83 gsl with a five speed tranny. the front u joint on the driveshaft broke when the guy before me owned it. i wanna get it driving, so i need a new u joint, but, i've read in some places that in 83, the u joints are not replaceable, and when i looked for them for my car, i found some u joints for sale. I don't know who's telling the truth here, so any insight would be helpful. are they replaceable, or do i need a whole new driveshaft?

If you take it to a driveshaft place, they can do it for you. I had both the front and back done and balanced it was a lot cheaper than getting a new driveshaft.

It has been about 6 years but I think it was about $65 or so. I could be wrong on the price though.

'83-'85 are staked in so if you can find a shop that will cut them out and install a new u-joint with a snap ring or something to hold it in for a good price, go for it.

Go to rockforddriveline.com if the shop tells you they can't do it. You can get the u joints from them.

Thats the place. Find the home page and go to the catalog. They will get the joints to you in a couple days.
