Two carbs: same problem.
Two carbs: same problem.
I picked up an 85 GSL the other week and brought it home. Owner said it would turn over (it does) and fire up (it does) and then flood down (it does). So, dicked around with the carb for a little while, decided to change carbs. Figured there was a float sticking or something. New carb, same problem.
Only thing I can think of is that its crap from sitting. Next step is to put a clear filter in front of the carb and see if there is in fact **** flowing into the floats and sticking them. Anybody else have this mysterious problem on two or more different carbs? I'm usually not so stumped by something, but neither I or my dad can figure this out.
TIA.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the Aggie carb fix method...
Anyway, fiddled with it some more, and got it to start up and run. Problem was my dad and I both put a bunch of ATF and WD-40 down the carb, so the car was smoking like a Cheech and Chong reunion. My dad finally killed it because there was more smoke than a winning burnout contest. On the bright side, the mesquitos quit bugging us for a while. Next step is to fire it up again some night when theres a tiddy bit of a wind and let it run till the smoke stops. If it doesn't, then theres other problems....
EDIT: Oh yeah, problem ended up being gum from the tank from sitting for two years. Put a bigassed fuel filter just in front of the carb and it kept the floats from sticking. Figured I'd mention that for archive purposes (not that anybody uses the search...).

Hmmm well if you decide you need a "new" carb locally, I am in San Marcos and have recently begun making my own version of the modded stock Nikki... I've got quite a few things to experiment on before I EVER sell one to anyone, but if you're in no hurry, right?
I have about 6 to try on my personal car first!
Not many FB's running around Austin (I work up in north ATX), so if you see a black FB on 15" panasports, wave.
