Turn Signals and 4 way flashers stopped working

Car was working trouble free and fine until this evening, both the turn signals and hazard switch now do nothing. Anyone else encounter this? What was the solution? Vehicle is an 85 GSL-SE. Thanks in advance.

Is the flasher dead? Might want to check it out.

I had a short that blew my interior lights and hazards, it was just the 15a fuse that needed to be replaced after i fixed the short. But my 84 didn't have the turn signals go out when that fuse blew.

Where is the flasher located? Is it a two prong cylinder style?

i went to the auto parts store and they sold me a round flasher which does not appear to fit the bill. i've got the wheel off and the column shroud off and can't make heads or tails of it. any pointers?

The issue is the flasher control module. Its located near the hood release and is black in color with the flasher unit built in. Pull it and replace with a known good unit.

I had the same problem occur with my '85 gsl last summer. I had a solder joint break loose on the back of my hazard switch that killed the turn signals and four-ways. Found a replacement switch on ebay for $20 and it fixed the problem. If I remember correctly I could still hear the flasher working when I tried to use the blinkers but the dash indicators and the exterior lights were inop.

i wonder if i might have a problem there too. i replaced my flasher, took it apart before doing so, and it looked identical joint to joint as my old one. they are working right now, but i don't see any joints - maybe one that's questionable honestly - that i could redo.

Well my signals work fine but my hazards do nothing..... I must look into this.

I thought the fix involved taking apart a module and re-soldering a component?

the flasher is a module on this car. if you take it out from under the column and unbolt it from its bracket (it is on the same bracket as the horn relay), you remove the rubber grommets and then it comes apart to reveal the circuit board. typically those solder joints appear cracked and need to be re-soldered. i took the module apart and the one i bought from ebay, and the guts looked the same. i'm not saying my eyesight is air force good, but i would have thought the damage and needed repair would have been obvious.

regardless, my signals have been working since i swapped the ebay flasher in. i will keep the other and tinker with it when the time or need arises, probably the latter.

looking over the factory diagnostic tree in the service manual (over on foxed.ca) seems to point towards the hazard fuse or hazard switch itself being the problem if the signals work but the hazards do not.
