Turbocharging a 12A

I am in the middle of an engine rebuild. Before I go any further I had an idea to maybe turbocharge it depending on how difficult it will be. I know the basics of what I need but I just wanted to know a bit more what items I will need and how to set it up. I wanted to use the stock t2 turbo stuff if possible. I plan on running a Holley 600cfm Carb w/ RB intake, 1/2 bridge 12A, MSD 6AL ignition. Firstly, can I use the Holley carb for turbocharging? I know I need a carb hat but will I have to modify the Holley to handle the turbo? I know there are a few threads about this out there but I wanted to know if it would work with my specific setup. If any one knows please help me out!

If you want to turbo a carburated car, you have to prep the carb for boost. Yes you can do that to a holley, and yes you have to have it modified. I have no idea how to modify it, and you'd probably have to have it sent to a shop (plugging rotaryshack.com now) to get it boost prepped. You'll have to modify the turbo manifold, or make your own (probably make your own). You'll have to piece everything together entirely on your own.

Hopefully that helps a bit.

Is it true that I can keep my stock rotors and just set the boost low instead of have to get low compression rotors?

Where would you get low compression rotors for a 12a? 9.4:1 is already low enough, anyway.

And if you are going turbo on a 1/2 bridge, I assume you built the engine to be able to withstand 8,000+ rpms, and if that is the case why worry about low or high boost? The stock TII stuff can hold up to 13 or 14 psi. I wouldn't push it that high, but I don't see anything wrong with 10 or 11 psi.

O and as far as turbo prepping I would recomend that who ever you by the carb from (me) sned it to rotary shack for you (another plug for a great company) It could save you some on shipping.

this is very over-simplified, but your compression is not the issue. the stock rotors will boost just fine and can make gobs of turbocharged power. you just have to control heat, fuel and spark.

I really didn't like having a blow through turbo system. It worked, but not perfectly. EFI seems like a better match for a turbo system or a draw through carb if you have to use a carb. You may even be able to run a 13B EFI intake with the right adaptor. I know you can use the crank angle sensor.
