If you were to turbocharge a factory EFI 13B,then try to smog it....you might get by.
The trick is not making it too obvious or blingy. On a stock rotary, the turbo itself is almost invisible and in reality, they arent looking for the turbo anyways.....they are looking for smog control devices and any mods that delete or alter those devices.
It would have to NOT affect or remove any of the smog control gear and youd have to find a way to get more fuel to the engine, but without adding any obvious extra injectors and such.A TII intake manifold would be the safest,stock-est looking method. Then there is tuning and/or piggy-back electronics to handle the enrichment/timing duties, alongside the stock ECU which must continue to operate the basic engine functions and smog control devices.....this mess is why so many(myself included) just recommend doing a "ready to run" TII engine swap.

If you arent mechanically inclined or experienced.....I can hardly recommend pursuing any of the above.

Truer words were never said, I have completed two 13bt swaps in the last 2 years, and I got both of them smogged here in japan (very similiar to cali) and honestly the only way to do it easily is with a 13bt its ecu wireing harness and smog -peripherals.
