turbo II turbo swap
turbo II turbo swap
looking to upgrade the stock turbo but cant decide if i should go with a bnr style or maybe a holset. looking for internal wastegate and to keep the stock manifold. what other turbo's will fit into an se chassis with the stock exhaust manifold?
Only the hybrids fit the stock turbo mani. Tough they seem expensive, they're a a simple bolt on. Keep in mind there are other mods involved too. What are you're current mods and hp goals? Even with the stock turbo, a 3" exhaust and a couple other mods will get you 220-230 whp.
To answer that one, I suggest you spend some time reading in the 2nd gen section. Brian has 4 stages of his turbos. I believe I read somewhere that someone hit near 400 hp. That's not a number I would strive for on a turbo based off of the HT-18. Going for those numbers I would prefer to use an aftermarket turbo, manifold and bov.
i would just go look in the second gen sec. but i'm trying to retain the stock manifold cause of money issues. and im not sure any of them would know what aftermarket turbo's will fit in the se chassis
you're going to have fun fitting anything with the stock manifold. It's not a chassis issue, it's an intake mani issue. the stock manifold puts it very close.
on the contrary, with a good aftermarket manifold there is little you can't fit. I have a manifold that swoops forward, putting the coldside about even with the waterpump, and I'm running a t04e 60 trim, .96 a/r hotside with LOADS of room around the turbo, on all sides.
and by t04, I assume you mean, t4,which will not fit on a stock manifold, they are t3 flange. there are adapters however due to the intake spacing I'm not confident how that will all fit.
and and and, I got my turbo with manifold for under 400 bucks, then got a 50mm wastegate for around 250, some people spend more on the bnr itself. it's all in how you shop.
**edit** and that's not ebay stuff. it's a custom stainless manifold, HKS gate, and garrett/airresearch turbo. BUY USED

I have a BNR stage 2 turbo. A series 5 turbo was used for this upgrade. I'm using it on my series 4 motor. I can tell you that it does sit very close to the intake. Infact. I could not mount it initially because the "nubs"/or whatever you call those pieces that the bolts that hold the turbo together go into were hitting the intake manifold. I had to grind one or two of them down as well as slightly clock the turbo to make it fit properly. (I'm not sure if I would have had better clearance using the series 4 turbo).
I can't tell you what kinda power I'm making yet as I'm still breaking in the motor and I need to get the microtech tuned before I push it. I might have pics of how the turbo sits on the motor if your interested.
