? the **** just unscrewed. I was wondering about the chrome peice the **** bolts to. Does it need to be removed along with the rubber? I've taken the 5 bolts out around the shifter underneath a metal surround which holds the rubber to the car.

The rubber should be able to stay. The chrome piece is just to stop the shift **** properly so it locks in a straight position. You can take it (the chrome piece) off which then makes the shifter & transmission slide down & threw the rubber easily, or leave it and work the rubber over and off the shifter as you lower the transmission.

This is the easy part.

Okay, I think we may be talking about the wrong chrome piece... I'm talking about the large piece that the know actually screws onto. Does that thread off another shaft inside it or am just looking at the wrong?

In case anyone is still interested I was able to get the 12A and trans out successfully today. That rubber "boot" thing with the trans was silly, I didn't need to take it off as said before, I think I was just confused... Going to start going through and inventorying what I have and what I need and getting the engine bay clean, going through the '85 wiring harness and try and figure out what I'll still need in the engine bay. Gonna take it nice and slow from here. Probably break open the 12A to learn a little and see what happened to it. Also going to be selling some 12A parts sometime soon if anyone is interested, I'll have a sterling carb, RB header and not sure what else yet.

Thanks again guys for all the input, it helped quite a bit. Hopefully have this up sometime in time for an auto-x or two this year

Some updates (w/ pics)

Included some pics of my work with a couple questions. Going to get ready to start taking everything else out of the engine and was looking at the fuel system. Obviously aftermarket, but would it be capable of supportng the TII or should I upgrade the pump and lines? Not sure on the diameter of the lines but the pump is a Carter if that is of any significance. Thought of hooking up a cheap pressure gauge up to the regulator and seeing what type of pressures I can get out of it. Looks like I have both a supply and return line. Please let me know what you think.

Oh, in the pics you'll see the 12A out with the trans still attached as well as the TII block that I'll be putting in it. Also a successfully empty engine bay
