tuning questions

ok so ive been reading the haynes manual and sterlings website on tuning a nikki carb, and i had just a few questions.

in sterlings website he uses the term pts=primary throttle stop. im haveing a hard time finding it on my carb and also the ifa= idle fuel control. is there a different name for those things or is that what its called.

also the first step in sterlings tuning page was to adjust the deceleration dashpot and ac idle compensation valve so that they dont interfere with the primary throttle operation..how do you adjust those? and wheres the ac idle compensation valve?

Have you downloaded the Factory carb manual? If not it can be found in the following link.

Throttle opener is AC compensator. Mixture screw is the idle fuel adjustment (ifa). Idle adjust screw is the primary throttle stop (pts).

Keep in mind the location of the idle and mix screws differs between years of Nikki. Earlier -7 ones are different from what's pictured above.

To adjust the dashpot, you loosen the locknut on top, and then screw the body of the dashpot in or out until it's just touching the throttle shaft cam at the appropriate RPM.

The throttle opener has a hook on the bottom. This hook pulls on the throttle linkage when the AC is on. The dashpot has a piston which stops the throttle linkage from closing too quickly. If you can adjust the Primary throttle stop screw out until the idle is well below stock, then these are not having an effect on your idle. They each have lock nuts that are used for initial adjustment.

did the steps to tune it didnt even bother adjusting the dashpot seeing as it was where it needed to be anyway plus it was a pain in the *** just trying to get to that nut on top of it. the car seems more responsive when you step on the gas. i think the only thing odd about it is at idle, the needle stays at 750 or 800 then goes down to say 650 to 600 for a second and bumps right back to the regular idle
