Trouble shifting

Hey guys just a quick question about my transmission (12A series 3, 5 speed manual)

Ive recently started having trouble engaging 2nd whilst shifting, its becoming worse and starting to effect 1st and 3rd?

Any ideas?

Cheers Matt.

It "could" be something as simple as low oil level in your gearbox or the shift rods need adjusting. However, it is more likely that the synchro's are going bads. If you haven't done so already download the Factory Service Manual (FSM) in the 1st gen "FAQ's" section. Section 7A in the manual is a good place to start. Good Luck.

Sticky synchros can cause this. Use a 50/50 mixture of the standard recommended gear lube and Auto Tranny Fluid. The ATF still has plenty of lubrication, but also has lots of detergents that can clean the crud out of the synchros. I use this mixture full time.

I've done this with many cars, always with great results. I found this recommendation in "How to hotrod and race your datsun" but it should still be applicable to any Jap tranny. Good luck...

Check your clutch hydraulic fluid level. If it is low, then look for hydraulic leaks in the master and slave cylinders.
