Trans. adapter to run stronger 5-spd?

Does anyone know of a company that makes a trans. adapter to run a strong/close ratio 5-spd?

Thanks!

Also - more pics of the headlights please.

Prices are in Australian dollars, haven't delt with them personally, but I do plan on getting their Stage 1 clutch kit at some point.

Gearbox Conversions

Although Mazda S4/5 turbo gearboxes are quite strong, some people still prefer the strength and shift quality that only a Toyota gearbox can provide.

Mazda S4/5 5 speed gearbox's - From $400

Toyota Corona 4 speed gearbox's - From $150

Toyota Supra 5 speed gearbox's - From $475

Toyota Supra turbo 5 speed gearbox's - From $1800

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adapter Kits

All kits apart from the Supra turbo are available to suit either S4/5 or early (RX4) type bell housings. Our adaptor plate kits use your original Mazda bell housing for strength and durability. They come complete with all the hardware necessary for successful fitting.

Toyota Corona and Celica 5 speed adaptor kits (steel case) - $195

Toyota Supra 5 speed adaptor kits - $240

Toyota Supra turbo 5 speed kits (indestructible) - $585

S4/5 Gearbox shifter modification (mounts shifter forward 100mm for easy fitting into your early Mazda) - $120

Why not use an early bell housing with a turbo transmission?? Racing Beat makes a 225mm clutch disc with a turbo spline hub.

I used to have a Corona with a 4 speed. 1900cc boinger. That little car could do a decent 2nd gear scoot. Not to mention the nice long 1st gear smoke shows

I'm new at this so I hope this is the right place to answer your question.

I race the car on weekends in SCCA Solo II, nothing "Real" heavy, just need something that keeps the revs. up longer/higher during shift points.

Looking to spend around $700.00 for all parts.

Thanks!

It really doesn't matter to me what tranny, I just need something that keeps the revs up at a higher rate and longer between shifts.
Of course I would like something that parts are readly avaliable.
I used to run a 1971 Datsun 510 in which I install a 5-spd from a early model 200sx (dog leg type). THat tranny worked well.
I am running a 4:11 pos-a-trac rear which helps, but the engine still drops to quickly.
I see a drop of almost 1000rpm from 2nd to 3rd and would like to keep "All Shifts" around 500rpm drop.

Thanks!

A little more info.

It was a '69 Corona and the tranny was interesting, to say the least. It had shorter throws than my bro's '71 Celica, and would only go into 1st at a dead stop. I don't know if that's normal because my SA shifter sometimes goes into first in a slow roll. 2nd needed to be double clutched for a little while, but then something clunked inside the tranny and then it would go into 2nd no prob. The car had been sitting for a while before I got it. Maybe the synchro just needed to be worked loose? Anyway, I started wearing out the clutch from all the burnouts I did, but the tranny never complained. After the synchro came unstuck, there were no further hickups out of that tranny. I'd say to go for it if you've got one sitting around. It stood up to the torque of a 1900cc 'tractor engine', so it would probably be ok for a rotary.

"I'll bet that I could find one of those very reasonable"...

Thanks!

You could have the "guts" from a Miata tranny installed. I've heard that makes a pretty good auto cross setup. Check out Pineapple Racing

Sorry it took so long.
These are still in the design stage and I don't know if I like them or not. Any way here are a few pics.

The miata internals would bump you into e prepared

79-82 mazda 626 rwd also fit in a 1st gen case. i have one in my 1st gen now. do a search on 626 and you'll see how to do it. *very* cheap semi-close ratio transmission. revs drop much less inbetween shifts. any change in transmission ratios bump to e prepared. the 626 gears are physically thinner than 1st gen, therefore somewhat weaker. but they can handle a 12a j-bridgeport GT3 motor with fat slicks for 2.5 years my acquaintance did this.

if you want to spend $2000, you can get the input, output shaft and gears in chromolly, lighter than steel and hardened 20% stronger. In the good old MazdaComp close ratios. mazdamotorsports.com sells it to racers.

A buddy put a 200sx 5speed 'funny first' trans in his Datsun 520 truck. That was a good set of gears for 1600cc. unfortunately the trans he pulled at the yard howeled due to worn bearings.
