Don't have a scale around large enough...but that would sound about right....especially without the fluids....

I just weighed one and it weighed in at 66.5 LBS without the shifter and transmission crossmember. So figure 70 LBS to be safe and of course you don't ship with the fluid in it. :-)

Thanks Doc. The old ribcase trannies weigh noticeably more. Glad I swapped a smoothcase into the GLC to save a little weight.

You should be able to find a transmission pretty easily right in Sacto area. I did, a couple years ago, made a simple 2x4 cradle to keep it from rolling around, put it in the back of the 85 and drove it down to the Bayarea. One person can load/unload it without too much trouble and without banging the finish.

Isn't there a big RX-7 recycling junkyard right on the outskirts of town?

That's why I made a simple cradle for it. No problems.

Isn't it kinda odd how easy it is to pick up a trans, when you aren't under the car, but when you are, they feel like they weigh 300lbs. 1 person can usually carry a trans around with ease, yet trying to install that same trans by yourself is far more difficult.

Uh....Mazda Recycling is in Rancho Cordova, Sacto. Go there...i've purchased two transmissions from them and they are both still running after 4+ years.

Take a drive and have fun...they supposedly have everything.
