Anything will fit with enough time, money, effort and fabrication skills.
It won't just bolt in that's for damn sure. The only time I'd do it is if I was swapping a complete RENESIS setup, which would take a lot of fab work anyway, so adding the tranny to the mix would be easier than mounting a renesis to the stock trans.

unless you register it as a classic it never will be exempt in NJ.
As for the Rx8 trans, unless your going to swap the renesis as well the gear ratios would hurt rather than help the first gen engines.
oh and yes the first gen is outdated in stock form, by quite a bit, thats why we all modify them

Out of date........Yeah! There are minivan's that will smoke my 12a in stock form. But there is one area that the Rx7 still exceeds in very well...."Take them to the twisties, and take them to school"
Thanks for the info every body,But it was just a question I needed an answer to because it has been on my mind for a while and if it would have fit I would have experimented on my beaten up 1st GEN.
it doesnt matter that a minivan will smoke a stock first gen. the driver of the minivan needs to realize that he is driving a minivan and you can be comfortable knowing that you drive an RX-7

I've seen that article, would love to see the car in person. I never said a renesis swap was impossible, it seems you took it that way. Also, despite the fact that first gens are completely outdated on many levels I still wouldn't prefer anything else.

RX8 tranny has a different shifter location from the 81-92 cars, its about 2" further forward, it should fit the SA though. you also need a turbo clutch, flywheel, rx8 starter, and a turbo style driveshaft.
and then you get to fab up a trans mount, and figure out how to make the speedo work

Growing old is manditory
Growing up is optional
And my 7 will always make me feel like a kid inside. She's 23 and doesn't look it at all. People ask me what year my car is, and when I tell them they stare in disbelief. They sit in it and the interior is mint. They look at it, and other than a few blemishes, the car is in great shape. Especially once you compare it to the 4-and-5 year old rust buckets that survive winters over here.
A Sterling Carb, a Racing Beat Exhaust and a bit of porting, and other cars would not be able to tell that it was that old either.
I wouldn't rather drive anything else... Well... I'm sure I could be pursuaded to drive something with a cosmo 20b in it... as long as it wasn't a 2nd gen
