tranny noise!

holy crap do i hate this noise(for fear of my tranny grenading)

it doesnt do it under accel, its when the rpms are coming back down, and only in neutral

it will do it sitting still or between shifts, but only after high rpms (6,000+)

i kind of want to blame the lucal synthetic gear oil that's in it, but then again this transmission has been under water.

anyone else heard this or know what it is?

If it only happens when the transmissionis out of gear it sounds similar to a thrust bearing noise.

the release bearing is a fairly new part, as i used a new one when i put this tranny on the car.

the clutch assembly i dont know..it doesnt slip or chatter.

To test the throwout bearing: sit in the car with it idling, then place the shift into neutral, lastly engage the clutch pedal in and out a few times. If the whining noise starts each time you press the clutch its the bearing thats bad.

Actually, I think if the noise STOPS when you press the clutch in then the throwout bearing is going bad. Mine did this for the first two years that I owned it, but this year I had no issues, go figure...
