tranny help needed

83 rx7 5 speed i just put a new stock clutch in 400 miles ago seemed to be working fine but now it seems like clutch has no pressure when the car is running i cant get it in gear i bled the clutch made sure fluid was full the pedal is way to easy to push and when i push it it does move the fork on top of the trans any ideas are helpful??? is it possible something in the trans is not letting the clutch disengage or that the slave cylinder is weak it was rebuilt but the car sat for 3 years so it was bout 5 years ago, the tranny goes through all of the gears very easy when the car is not running please help

Could be the slave cylinder crapping out. When mine started to go bad you could push in the clutch pedal and the clutch would disengage normallly but as you held the pedal the slave cylinder would slowly bleed off and the clutch would slowly engage. I would have to put it in neutral while sitting at stop lights. A new slave cylinder is only about $25 and has a warranty.

This should be straightforward. If the pedal is "way too easy to push", chances are it is an issue with the clutch hydraulics. Verify the output shaft from the slave cylinder is moving the lever that goes into the transmission. If it is, bleed it again to see if it helps. If it does and then goes bad again, you've found the issue. Either the clutch master or slave is bad, and depending on mileage, you might as well replace them both as we are dealing with 20 year old cars here.

If this does not solve the problem AND the clutch fork is moving, you will need to pull the transmission again to look at the clutch fork to verify it is functioning properly. Chances are it is not and you will find your answer there.

Bleeding the Clutch- takes 2 people unless you have a brake bleeder.

Lets assume you'll need 2 people... have someone pump up the clutch a couple of times and hold the pedal down.
Get an 8 mm wrench, loosen the bleeder nipple.
Let the fluid out.
Re tighten nipple.
THEN have the other person let off the clutch pedal.

Repeat.

DO NOT let the clutch cylinder go empty or you will have to do this all over again. Keep doing this until your clutch pedal goes back to normal. Shouldn't take more than 4 or 5 times.

One other thing to check- there is another extension on the back of the clutch master going to the clutch pedal. Check to make sure that it is in place!!

Replace Master Cylinder

Chances are that you need to replace the Master Cylinder. I had the same problem on my 85. I thought it was the slave b/c the master was pumping fine as I thought. I replaced the slave and still same problem. I went and got a new Master Cylinder and replaced it and bled it and everything was just fine. It is only about 50.00 just buy it and put it in. Only takes about 15 mins. You will be good to go.
