I've always had a friend tie a rope to the bolt hole on the top of the bell housing. They pull up on it to help take the weight off of me, then i get underneath, align the bottom part of the tranny and then pivot up the rear, aligning the rest, whilst the friend lifts up on command. Then, I tell them to get back in their cage or they get no supper.

BTW, 1st time i did a tranny job, took like 20 mins to get it in, 2nd time it honestly took about 15 seconds.

My technique is simple, no partner nessessary....if you have some strength and good built leg muscles from riding bicycle. Anyway, have the whole car off the ground with jackstands/ramps. Now get the two long tranny mount bolts and a 14mm socket wrench in hand. Get the tranny under the car and manuver it over you and hold it up with your legs and stomach, this is straight in line with engine ofcourse. Lift the bell housing up with your legs and arms with the rear of it and slide it on! You may get dirty if you haven't cleaned your tranny housing though.

Usually it goes on right like its magnetically attracted to the engine. Best of all, you have a tremendous viewing angle and can pretty much point and goes on. It helps to watch the upper bolt sticking out of the engine to match it up. VERY straight forward.

Till I learned this trick, I would be frustrated for hours!

Then ofcourse once its mated to engine, hold the rear up and put in 1 of the 14mm bolts and then the other, everything else is easy.

remove the shifter before trying to put it in. It's just 3 10mm bolts.
