Tranny fluid change

So today I was working on the fb, and I was going to change the tranny fluid. It seemed easy to loosen the nuts and all to drain and fill, but how the hell do you fill it back up? The fill plug is in a semi-tight area and looks like there is no room. I have RP 75w90, on this page to squirt the fluid back in, but the space is too tight to put the bottle in. Help.

Ahhhh, Confuscious say you must be smarter than the car!

(just kidding)

My preferred method of getting the tranny fluid into the tranny is to build a 'pressure chamber' using a spare bottle, a length of flexible tubing, a spare Tire Valve, and a portable air compressor. Stick with me here... I'm not kidding.

Take the spare bottle and drill 2 holes in the top - one hole should be the size of the flexible tubing and close enough in size that the tubing must be FORCED into the hole - you need it airtight, or this won't work. The flexible hose needs to go all the way to the bottom of the container. The other hole is for the Tire Valve - press this into place (or better yet, get the kind that bolts down), and attach the air compressor to the Tire Valve.

Turning on the air compressor should pressurize the bottle and if you stick your thumb over the end of the flexible tubing, it should bog down the compressor so you know your bottle is airtight. From there, just pour your gear oil into the spare bottle, put the cap in place, put the free end of the flexible hose in your filler hole on the tranny, and then turn on the compressor.

Viola! Just like the 'Pros' at Jiffy Lube! Good luck,

I had some extra tubing laying around and stuck it down from the engine bay into the filler hole. pushed the end of the hose over a funnel end and hung it from the hood latch.

I used a $10 hand pump from a parts store. It was right by the gear lubes/tran oils.

This worked great for me at the track when my hand pump gave out. Those little hand pumps do work great. The gravity method is slow but in a pinch....

Go to a vet and get a syringe for cattle. They give it to me for free. Works wonders.

I bet even beter would be the pump that you get with the anti-worm medicine you put on their backs. (I can't remember the name off hand) Hooks up to a large bottle and you just pull the trigger.

I did mine awhile back and was too lazy to run to a parts store during the refill..ironic since I was 'working' on the car..I simply squeezed the **** out of the bottles to fill the tranny back up..messy but was successful..however the lucas stuff was a bitch..very thick..im buying the pump next round..the other ideas on here would work far, far better

So you used the lucas bottle alone? Not as an additive? What do you think of the lucas?

I ask because, like a few of us, I'm gonna be changing my tranny fluid when I get time (hopefully next sat.) soon. But I have a TII tranny.

What would anyone reccomend? Lucas? Or RP? What #'s?

TIA

I used the lucas as an additive btw 1 quart the rest was rp manual trans fluid
my se's tranny was noisy and notchy and obviously near replacement status..once I replaced the fluid and after a few weeks of driving the tranny became quite smooth and far less noisy..so for me it was great stuff worked wonders

Yeah what oil should be used now we've all made/bought the tool, i need a new box so i'm still not sure if i should bother. the 5th gear bearing is shot and it's real noisy(except for 4th).

Yeah. My gears don't feel very lubed at all . It's hard getting them in gearmost of the time but they don't grind when they go in. The tranny does make a whirling noise when the clutch isn't down though. I hope chaning the fluid can fix both of my issues.

I hear the RP is some good stuff. With lucas as an aditive? Has anyone tried lucas by it's self? Just curious.

I would not use Lucas by itself. THe stuff won't even flow when it's cold.
