75W90wt gear oil. Lot of folks use Amsoil or RedLine Synthetics. No Dip stick. Only way to check is to open the filler/inspection plug on the upper left (driver) side of the tranny on LEVEL ground, stick your finger in to the lip and you should come out with oil on the tip of your finger. BIG note if you do your own oil change is to NOT over torque the drain (bottom) or filler (side) plugs. These are TAPERED and the more you force them in the wider they make (=split one day) the drain hole - plus it makes them a royal b!tch to remove!! Its tricky to get the oil INto the tranny. I bought a plunger-type oil filler (looks like a giant hypodermic with a hose on it) so I could pump oil up into the tranny.
Should be changing the oil every 2 years BTW!

I am using 85W gear oil and a quart of ATF fluid. The ATF fluid is supposed to clean up the insides of the tranny a good bit.

If you can't break the bolt loose, use a big vice grip plier and a sledge. That is what I had to do after heating it.

I use Royal Purple 75w 90. With a half quart of ATF. I stand by this method. I had a tricky third gear for a long time. I put this stuff in there.(I just used reg gear oil B4) I felt a difference that night. It worked wonders!!! I feel that, I have gain more power at the rear wheels. It shifts like a dream. Even my dad(original owner) said that it hasnt shifted that good in a long time.

This would also be a good time to change your rear diff fluid. If you cant remember than go ahead and change. If you have LSD (GSL model) make sure you get the additive for LSD!

Hope this helps Matt

If it's an auto then don't use gear oil, use the regular tranny fluid. If you want synthetic, then run Mercon V.

I use Redline in the tranny and diff, but I'll be gettin RP soon enough. For filling it up, just take out the plug on the drivers side of the tranny and fill it with a pump or something like that. It's filled when it has a very small stream coming out of the tranny.

Your in luck! I happen to have a tranny sitting on my shop floor.

As you can see the red circle is the fill plug. This is on the drivers side of the car.

The red square is the drain plug which is directly on the bottom.

Hope this helps ya. Merry Christmas!

Sorry so big to lazy to resize.

That's just retarded. Don't post that it doesn't matter. ATF is completely different than gear oil. Use what is supposed to be in it. 80w90 or 75w90 gear oil.

Not to start a war, but I have already stated that I do use Royal Purple 75w90 in there with a lil ATF to help clean. They asked what type of ATF I used, So I stated that.

NEVER use just ATF in your manual tranny!!!!

I'll second the Royal Purple..I have the stuff in the tranny and rear diff..before the 7 was quite noisy in the tranny dept etc..the Purple has really quieted it down and smoothed it out..doesn't mean I won't eventually need a new tranny but hey it's quiet
