trailing ignitor

Will a bad trailng ignitor make the engine miss at high rpms (i mean 5000 and above)? I mean miss real bad. Also it misses at when it has very little load on the engine. I runs fine though when i just accelerate normaly just as long as I keep a some load on the engine and under 5 grand. Anybody have any ideas? I did pull out the trailing plugs and they were real black. The leading ones looked fine.

Yes, the tach will go dead in later models, is it 82 and up??, and it shouldn't even idle very well...

If it was idling fine, and had power, and then just suddenly lost all its power and wouldn't idle very well on top of that, you are most almost assuredly looking at a trailing ignitor failure.

How's that for a run-on sentence??

Pull one of your plug wires put a spare plug in it and turn the car over. no spark and you know for sure.

Make sure you ground the plug. and dont touch the plug unless you like shocking experences.

I have done that and no spark to be found. I guess I will be on the hunt for a new ignitor now.

I could sell you one. It will be friday before I could pull one. But I could mail it on saturday. $25 plus shipping or $30 shipped. It was pulled from a running Car.

There is a guy in the for sale section that always has parts also. He is out your way. I think the name was Wam.

did you make sure it is not the Coil? Swap the connectors from the Leading to the trailing Ignator and see if the problem changes sides.

Nope just went and checked them and they both work fine. I wish it would have been the coil, that is alot easier fix.

Before you buy anything make sure that your battery terminals are tight and that you have no loose ground wires. Loose cables on your battery will cause your trailing/tach to stop working.
