touble starting 84GS this morning help please???

This morning, it was about 32 degrees so I had some frost on my windshield. I started the car with the choke as normal, then adjusted the choke in a little to get a smooth idle. Went back inside while it warmed up but when I cam back out, about 5 minutes, the car had shut off. I tried to start it again, and it would turn over, but no spark like it wanted to start. I pressed the gas all the way in and tried without the gas pressed for awhile. It would not even try to start, just sit there and turn the starter over.

I then popped the hood and dropped a little gas down the carb, got back inside and it started right up. I let it run a few minutes to be sure it was not the fuel pump, cut it off, then started it right back up. I did not drive it to work because I did not want it to leave me stranded.

Can anyone tell me what may be going on?

Thanks

Sounds like, for whatever reason, it flooded out. The other possibility would be that there was a bit too much choke, which covered the plugs in soot causing it to stall out and be difficult to restart.

If flooded, why did it start when I poured a little gas in the carb? Is that how it works? It would not start when pressing the gas to the floor, or when I sit and let it turn over without the gas pressed.

I tried it this afternoon and it started right up.

Can someone tell me to trick to getting a flooded car started if I dont have some gas handy?

Thanks

Pull the plugs, clean the connections and fire her up. Nice little exhaust fart for the neighbors

I usually dump an ounce or two of Seafoam down the carb when she floods. Works great.
