??CHOKE QUESTION?? on a 1984 RX7 GSL

Something strange has been happening when I go to start my car. I put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position, I then pull the choke out and push it back in about half way and then start the car. When I turn the key forward, the choke immediately goes back in and there is a "click" sort of sound. This will happen again on the second attempt as well. If I then manually hold the choke out with my left hand while turning the key the car will start fine. After it's warmed up and I can turn off the car and it restarts fine. There is a brand new battery in the vehicle.

Has anyone ever experienced this happening?

Any help would sure be appreciated,
Thanks, David

This sounds similar to what happened to me yesterday.

In my case, turns out that the cable connections at the battery were just a little too corroded. I cleaned up the cable connectors and the battery posts with one of those wire brushes meant for that job.

Reconnected cables to battery and it started normally.

I'll take another look at the battery connection but I know the terminals and cable ends are clean as a whistle.'

Thanks for your input, much appreciated... Anyone else have any suggestions????

Yes, the choke pulls back in when the vehicle is warmed up. The problem is starting it cold. Pull the choke out after turning the key and the chokes snaps back in quickly and there is a click sound.
