Took my rear sway bar off today.

Just wondering who else has theirs off. I am curious to see what results I see from it. I am going autocrossing sunday so I will see. Just wondering who else had done so and what they got for results.

keep it off. rear swaybar quickens the snap oversteer that is 1st gen's bane. rear end is more controllable without the rear bar on there. have fun

Do you have an 85 or a 79-84? The 85's pickup points are ever-so-slightly lower than the 79-84's, and therefore is way more neutral, except in low speeds. I would think in Auto-x the speeds would remain low enough that it would be a problem. I'd be interested to hear what the results are.

There is one particular corner that I would take fairly regularly for work. With the rear bar on I would get nervous about the corner half way through, and start praying that I made it out the other end still facing forward. After removing the rear bar, I can take that same corner a bit faster and with much more confidence.

The car use to feel really bad through there, but is much nicer now. I really think it's worth it.

I still have the stock front bar, but plan on fitting a thicker item, and trying it with and without the standard rear bar, just to see what it's like. Anyone done this?

If this bar is so horrible, why did Mazda engineers put it on?

I know lots of Spec7 drivers unhook their rear bars because they would do snap-spins in many turns, for no apparent reason. My dad was racing with a guy when out of nowhere my dad was looking at the guy straight in the face, as the guy snapped around. One couragous guy unhooked the rear bar and said it made a world of difference. My dad and I were both amazed that they would do this, as our 85 GSL handles perfectly in all but very slow turns.

Like I said in my previous posts, the 85 suspension pickup points are like a 1/4" lower than the 79-84, making it more neutral except in low speed corners.

love my rear and front bars, they are bigger then the SE bars and I love the diference over the stock 12a bars.

I also have upgraded suspension but I could tell the diference more from the bars then the shocks and almost the springs.

I hate body roll, and I know some is good but I would rather stay perfectly flat throughout the corner.

I feel more confident that way.

I have had the rear end break loose with the gsl-se rear end, but most of it was intentional, i.e. drifting

havent lost control through a corner yet, knock on wood

Yep, and reduces oversteer/increases understeer.

Hey, my rear swaybar is really bent up and the bushings are shot. I'll bet it's screwing up my handling a lot.

How easy are they to remove?

ha ha
you guys are making mountains out of molehills
the car doesn't sway noticeably at all to what I can tell
and the handling seems to be a bit more well handleable
we shall see for sure tomorrow at the autocross.

The way I figure it... Mazda engineers know more than me, so I'll just leave it as is I don't find any steering problems with my car as it is, but I'm not racing either

And yes, I meant the rolling over thing as a joke
