too small turbo?

too small turbo?

In keeping with my "I-want-to-blow-it-up-this-summer" mentality concerning my stock 12a...
my kinda/not-really buddy's got an IHI-RHB5 turbo I can get on the cheap.
I don't know the first thing about turbo sizing or anything.
I'm not looking to make crazy power, don't care about driveability, I don't really care what happens, just would like to go a little faster for a while before I do another motor.

He says its internally wastegated and maxes boost at 12-13 PSI.

My plan is fab up some ugly-*** 1 hour manifolds and run a draw-through with a big-*** carb, and no boost-controller, for the simplist, easiest, might-work-might-not set-up I can rig, then, if it runs half-assed, slap it on the dyno, make sure its getting enough fuel, see how long it lasts. I'm already set up for the carby, just need to figure how to oil the turbo. Any reason I couldn't t-off coming right outta the oil cooler?


Is this turbo going to be too small for this anything-goes project>?
12-13 PSI seems a little high for a stock 12a, but it doesn't really seem worth it to me to invest in a boost controller if its inevitably going to blow up anyway...

Thoughts? jokes? obvious pitfalls I should have thought about?
Or is this a retarded idea that might involve way more work than I'm thinking...?

are you using a bee-hive cooler? most us running proper turbos get oil from the filter pedestal.

You'll need to tap your front cover for the oil drain. Don't know about the turbo you're using, but if it's water cooled, you'll have to allow for that too.

You'll need a fuel pressure regulator that rises (1:1) for every PSI boost you'll run and a pump that can provide that PSI. (at least 20ish for a carby assuming 3-5 base pressure plus however many PSI).

You'll also have to decide if you're going blowthrough or drawthrough. If you do blowthrough, are you comfortable boost prepping your carb? are you using an intercooler (a must for 13-14psi)?

Just some things to consider.

ahoy the good ol rhb5. Came off of a Subaru most likely a gl-10 or xt turbo there were a few other cars with them I just don't know which ones. Using the Subaru i owned as a base I think you may over work that slug by top end rpms but I am not sure, I do not know rotarys that well.
