Tokico Illumina

So I guess Tokico is going through some major distribution problems right now and can't tell anyone when they will be able to ship struts.

That said, I found a place that has a couple of the "race" inserts that ReSpeed sells, part #BZ1086, in stock.

My question is do you need to do anything special to make the BZ1086 work? I know I have to have ReSpeed camber plates cause the shaft diameter is different, which I do, but do I also need to have the "race" coil overs?

Please advise and thank you.

If I'n not mistaken the only difference between the race coilovers and the street coilovers is in the threaded tube that slips over the strut. The race version welds on and the street version sets in the stock spring seat. The upper spring seat is the same.

the BZ1086 drops right in. the only difference in the thing is the diameter of the strut where it goes through the mount, and the valving.

So I just got an email back from RB about the Tokico availability. Heres what Jim says:

I spoke with the guys at the Tokico/SEMA booth, they indicated that a new distribution contract was JUST signed with Motovicity (MI) and the product line will be available around the spring of next year. I will say that Hitachi/Tokico has done a horrid PR job with this whole mess; they just let the whole line disappear for the past few months while they sorted out their issues. Oh well....

Best regards,

Jim Langer

I hope Motovicity does a better job in warranty replacements than the previous distributor.

I've been checking around and the word seems to be 'April.' We'll see, I guess.

Since I couldn't get struts and shocks, I spent this year's parts money on other useful things like new seat covers. Hopefully by next year the Tokicos will be available again and I can do the suspension. I miss the RB spring/Tokico HP combo.

Here's what's on the RB web site:

Tokico Update
Good news, Tokico products should be available at Racing Beat within the next few weeks. Recent conversations with Tokico’s new US distributor indicated that product was being sent from Japan ...
