Tokico Alternative?

With the Tokico's being impossible to find, is there a good alternative? I've got the KYB GR2's and they are a bit soft. Looking for any ideas. My car has the RB springs on it.

Thanks folks...

IIRC the mr2 rear tokikos fit up front on an fb, and I believe that there is a bilstein that wilk work too. Search for kentetsu and read some of his posts...

Just to clarify, the OP is looking for an alternative to Tokico as they have been on the "unobtainium list" for the better part of a year. Which currently-available Koni shocks fit in the front shock tubes? Reds? Yellows?

Well, that's good to hear. I assume they slip right into the stock shock tubes then. When my Illuminas go, I'll be looking at some Koni yellows to go with the Bilsteins I've got out back.

Nice, I just looked this up and it says its externally adjustable from the top of the strut. The KONI site doesn't say the price for these. Now I'm curious.

TireRack has em for $182.00 per shock.

What are the camaro specs on the rear shocks?

Who needs Tokicos anyway!

Tokico has unfortunately more or less imploded after their getting bought out, IMO. Considering they refused to honor their "lifetime warranty" on my old set, I say a sad "good riddance" to a once-great parts maker.

Got 'em on all four corners of the Z, too, but will go elsewhere when they go.

I sent in my warranty card for the new MR2 shocks I'd gotten (probably the last set out in the wild) and it was returned by the post office with a stamp saying that their bulk mailing account has been canceled. For those of you holding your breath for Tokicos, don't.

BD gets their Tokicos from the same place that everyone else gets them. They'll take your order and it will sit on back order for months. Or longer.

79-93 Fox Body mustang rear shocks also work well on the back of an FB. Koni makes these shocks in all flavors from non-adjustable ST to Double Adjustable yellows.

Another rear shock is the Fox Mustang KYB AGX. These are single adjustable (rebound) and work pretty well for the money. I have a pair on the back of my 85GT Mustang.

I'm guessing that Camro shocks are pretty similar. Either way, you want a shock that measures the same as the OE mazda shock - a little shorter if you have lowered your car.

Racing Beat have started offering old-stock Koni inserts but I'd stay away from those. I purchased two sets of old-stock Konis for my '79 back in the day and they didn't last for more than a few months before blowing out.

Bori_RX,
Pretty modest drop...maybe an inch and a half. If I want to go lower, I can cut some dead coils, but I didn't feel the need to just yet. Easy to cut off, not easy to put back on.

If you try to add them to cart, the fronts are not available but the rears are. I suspect they don't have a lot of those left either.

Yea I know what you mean. I'm not really trying to go any lower I'm about a inch and half also and that's good enough for me. Just trying get some shocks that are a little stiffer or that I can adjust, cuz I feel like I'm bouncing a lot with the kybs up in the front.

AE86 rear shocks will fit... But how did you get the fronts to fit, didn't think they would without modifying the stock strut tubes.

I am not running Bilsteins in the front...just MR2 Illuminas. I run Bilsteins in the rear.

Drivefast7 posted earlier that Koni yellow MR2 front shocks will work as well (if not better than) MR2 Illuminas. He even posted the part number.

I've been pulling my hair out over this for a few weeks now... we need a list of alternate struts that'll fit SAs and FBs. I get a bit twitchy substituting parts that aren't listed as specifically fitting and more consensus on what substitutes are proven to fit would be a massive relief.

I'm also having trouble finding a quality aftermarket front strut mount since the OEM are 90bux a pop. I'll suck it up if I have to but would rather spend the money on the struts, springs, bushings etc... I've read good things about NAPA and Raybestos mounts. The NAPA mounts list for 34bux, have a 1yr warranty and can be got locally = win.

Thanks DriveFast7.. found a pair of the MR2 Konis on sale from autoplicity.com. Expecting them in a few days. One less headache... Will see how they fit with OEM-spec mounts.
