TOB issue (I guess?)

Whenever I'm stopped in neutral, there's a slight whirring/rubbing sound coming from my tranny. I'm sure it's the throwout bearing, but how serious is it now. It doesn't really make noise otherwise, and the noise stops when I put the clutch in. How much would a new TOB run me?

If it's noisey in neutral and stops when you press the clutch it's probably the pilot bearing.

So willl my transmissione explode and send synchros and shrapnel through the transmission tunnel to sever my limbs? Or will it be ok for a while.

Neither the tob or pilot bearing are inside the tranny. A bad/missing pilot bearing can increase wear on the input shaft bearing.

Thanks for the link. It's probably the pilot bearing then. I'm gonna try to replace it this weekend. From what I hear it's a bitch....
