Tires

I'm looking for a set of high-performance summer tires for the stock wheels. Can I fit 215-50 on there front and rear? My local place can't seem to get Sumitomos so I'm looking for an alternative for autocrossing. They don't have to last for daily driving because they will only be used for racing, not even driving to the track. I've looked at a set of 205-60 V700 Kumho Victoracers but the price is kind of steep for my budget., so something a little less would be nice. The local shop were recommending some BFGoodrich Radial T/As at a really good price but I wonder whether they will be high enough performance for what I want.

The BF Goodrich T/A is a good general tire but not a real hipo tire, hence the "h" rating...215's will go on the 5.5" wide stock rims and it is quite a hoot to watch the tire guys struggle to make it happen...

i have radial t/a and they suck .. i have 205-60-13..

Trust me, they aren't expensive, but they don't handle pretty much ... i had yokohama avs-i before, they were much better.

Yokohama doesn't advertise our size anymore, which tire exactly did you have (size/model#)?

Yokohama still offers high performance tires for the factory 185 70r 13 size. The 205s they probably still have, I would imagine. Even when tire makers don't advertise a size they often have a bunch of tires in that size sitting in a warehouse in shrink wrap.

I have 205-60-14's Yoko ES100's on my se and I love them. It handles so good and when they spin you don't get the high pitch shrill sound that you get with all-season crap tires. I have autocrossed a couple times on them and I daily drive every day. I wish I could have gotten a smaller side wall though. I run 44 psi when racing to keep from side wall role over and it seems to work good.

According to TireRack the 215/50/13 Sumitomo require a rim that is 6 to 7.5" wide. The stock wheels on the first gen non-GSL-SE are 5.5".

I have the Sumitomo HTR 200 in the 215/50/13 size but I don't have a set of wheels yet. I'm currently running around on Kelly Chargers in a 205/60/13 size and they totally suck. Of course they are 500 tread wear and have been on the car since at least 1996. The car was left to sit for 6 years before I got it running.

I wanted to go to a 205/60/13 before I realized that's what size I was already running. I wanted someone with more traction.

Rims are fairly cheap from Circle Racing (about $55 each). http://www.circlekarting.com/Merchan...tegory_Code=13

I'll get a set one of these days but that won't do you much good in knowing the Sumitomos are any good.

i had a set of these on my '83 and they lasted about 5 months. they stuck pretty well, but the tread went real quick.

i currently have a set of road huggers on my civic, which are really good tires as far as wet grip (hey i live in WA), dry grip (we do have a summer here), and treadwear (they're well beyond their 40,000mi warranty with PLENTY of treadwear left).

extra bonus: they're cheap. cost me $42/tire. they're kind of an off-brand, i got 'em at discount tire.

I have Sumitomo HTR 200 215/50/13 on my stock rims. I have spacers to avoid the tires rubbing on the body or the suspension. I keep the pressure at 48-50 psi to compensate for sidewall flex. Great grip.

I think I'm going to try and get some 195-60 Sumitomos. They seem like the best tire, and if I keep the width down then the sidewall will also be relatively low-profile and stiff.

well it's your $$, but let me tell you that 195-60 will have a bigger sidewall than 215-50...

a little bird told me that Sumitomo was the same company as Falken.....Falken is going to be the company name that is used to market to North Amarica, Austraila etc....

I cant prove if this is true or not, just what a dealer told me.......

That could be true. Anywhere around here I ask for sumitomo tires (wanted some HTR 200's), nobody even knows what sumitomo tires are. Even the companies into performance tires don't know the name.

anybody have low profile 16's on their car? I'm looking for high performance summer tires and was wondering if anybody has 16's, and what tires are you running on, and is there ever any tire rub?

48-50 psi??? There are easier ways to kill yourself!! Anything over 42 or so is too much unless the sidewalls are made out of rubber bands.

I have heard that Sumis are a really soft side wall tire but damn.

yeah most tires are only rated up to 35 psi.. and even the machines that inflate the tires say never go beyond 40 because it could explode... but hey its your funeral.

Oh shaddap you ignorant ******

HTR 200's top pressure is 51 psi. I run it slightly under it. It is always fun to see the guys faces at Jiffy Lube when I say to keep the pressure at 48 psi ...
