Timing Q

So first off, Thanks to everybody who gave me GOOD advice on getting glew's rx back on the road. Those who gave me BAD advice better shape up or I'm gonna release the monkeys. Y'all been warned now, yahear?
To the question.
I got it running and timed, but I can't get the trailing mark to the indicator pin. The little ufo thing on the dizzy is pushed all the way in, as far as it can go, but I need to retard the spark like another 2mm (difference between mark on pulley and indicator pin). It feels kinda sluggish, but I hadn't driven it in a while, so I may just have some crazy notion that it should be faster, regardless I remember it being quicker. Maybe I need to loose weight. Or maybe it needs to be timed better. I'm also getting worse than shitty gas mileage, especially bad with gas prices now. Give me cheap gas or I'm releasing the monkeys!
Respond or I'll (you guessed it) release the monkeys.

timing

Set the leading timing mark on the indicator. Remove distributor. Adjust the secondary about half and half, (look at the markings inside). replace distributor so that the sliding guide on the plate can travel the same distance(more/less). left or right. Set the leading timing, and then try and set the secondary. may take a few tries. How many miles on the engine? sometimes excessive gas comsumpyion (like that world?) is due to engine on it s way to final destination...
