Are timing pulley's Keyed?

Are timing pulley's Keyed?

I'm assuming so - but i need to ask. i just fixed my timing issue - turned out to be either a coil or the distributor but that's neither here nor there. the car is running absolutely beautifully, but i can not see the timing marks at all when i use a gun, neither the red or the yellow one. is it possible the pulley is turned? or i'm 180 out?

are there any long or short term issues i may face if i leave it how it is? it's not over heating or pinging....

The stock pulley bolts onto a hub that is woodruff keyed. The pulley has 4 bolts and you could have r&i it wrong.

So, the hub is on right always. The pulley can be wrong. I would absolutely fix it. Just may to clean the timing marks on the pulley. If you use a one piece hub and pulley like Racing Beat sells, it can never go wrong.

Did you align the distributor gear with the mark on the bottom of the distributor body before dropping it in?

If you did it right, A trick is with the engine at zero degrees, the distributor ROTOR has an arrow on it that will point straight back to the rear of the car. Point right at the drivers tail light.

Last but not least, you can see the woodruff keyway at 11 o'clock and the zero timing mark at 1 o'clock. http://www.racingbeat.com/RX7-1975-1...tem/11473.html

One of the nicer things about the SA setup - they have an indexing rivet, so you can't (easily) put the pulley on wrong. FB's eliminated it for unknown reasons.

i'll have to look and see if i can find the marks. i looked once and was unable to find them, i forgot they existed.

I'm under the assumption that the pulley is on about 90 degrees off, because if i set it to the marks it pings and drives like **** - thus explaining my issues when i bought the car. when i replaced the coils + distributor + ignitors, i ended up putting it in about 90 degrees off according to the marks by accident, and it ran like it should.

i re-timed it from scratch today and it's in the same spot. i didn't however, set TDC. I couldn't quite figure it out with the minimal tools i had, so i did everything with guesswork until it started running, then fine tuned it.
Thoughts?

Under my SN, do a search on flywheel. I posted the easiest way to find the TDC using a stock flywheel including aftermarket.

Oh man I found the two pictures you posted. that's a godsend, really. they answered every question ever, pretty much. we'll see how it looks tomorrow. i'm betting i'm very close to TDC.

I agree, use wackys method. I did this to find out my car had been running 180* off for years before I got it.
