TII into '81 chassis

i've red most of the topics about how to swap a 13bt into a 1st gen.the most common solution to mount the new engine is to swap the 13bt front cover with one from 12a.is there any way to keep the 13bt front cover.cause i need the better alternator and the OMP with 4 lines.and i will also avoid the modifications needed for turbo oil return.i thought that a possible solution is to drill the 13bt cover in order to fit with the front style motor brace.what do you think?
i also heard that the TII trans could fit to '81 with no major modifications.is that right?

I know your right about the TII trans, i was told not to go there yet cause its a little expensive, but i dont see any problems if you already have the tranny.

You can still use the Better Alternator with the Older Front Cover.
You can still use the mechanical OMP on the older Front Cover.

If you look under a stock 13BT, you will see why you need the the Older Front Cover.

78-85 Engines Mount on the Front Cover.
86-92 Engines Mount on the Center plate of the engine(through the oil pan)
93+ engine Mount on the Rear End Plate, using a PPF (Power Plant Frame) that works with the Tranny.

YOU HAVE TO USE 1st Gen FRONT COVER to make it Fit in a Regular 1st Gen body, unless you are "Mr. Welder Extrordinaire"

Check out the Sticky thread on Top, "TII swap into GSL-SE" for all the info.

I modified my front cover for oil return.. No problemo there..

But a FC motor has been swapped into a SA/FB car without changing the front cover. Bryan at BNR supercars did it... He might make mounts and sell them? worth asking..

They sell mounts at racing beat, but i don't know if that would solve the problem.

Mike, you really think that is worth all the hassle of different mounts?

I mean a front cover is just a few bolts, and tapping for an oil return...Probably the easiest thing to do out of everything else there is to do. On the 84/85 Front covers, the dimple is already there and everything.

might be dumb question ... and a bit off topic, but why is there an oil inlet/outlet on the passenger side of the motor in the pic?

Not a dumb question.

That is where I tapped it with a -10 size plug,
for the Turbo Oil Drain Line. (needs to be thick, as it is gravity fed.)

That is a GSL-SE (Non-Turbo) front cover, and they normally don't have an Oil Return on them like the Turbo motors do.

thanks for your help but i have some more questions. ok,for the turbo oil return, but from which point you can send oil to the turbo.can the gsl-se 's oil pan do the trick in order to avoid modify the 12a's pan?i thought of using a haltech fuel-only computer and use a 12a turbo distributor for the ignition.do you know where can i find one?

Now THIS is a stupid question...I thought the second gens had electronic ignition...No distributor, right? So how could you use a 12A turbo distributor on a 13B turbo engine that was made for no distributor?

Easy... you just bolt the dizzy in place of the CAS and use the rest of the stock 1st gen ignition system. It actually makes the engine conversion a lot simpler.

i think that REVHED has right.not only it's a lot simpler but it is also more inexpensive.the only thing i want to know is how much boost that dizzy can handle.and of course where can i find one.

You can handle as much boost as the engine will tolerate. the 12A Turbo distributor (very Rare) will be available in Aus, New Zealand or Japan. Check Ebay, they are there once in a while. Corksport.com might have them too.

Please note. the 12A Turbo distributor will not retard that much. You are still better off using the E6K if you are going for BIG (relaible) power.

- Oh, and you HAVE TO USE the GSL-SE OIL PAN. You cannot use a 12A oil pan on a 13B.
