Angry throwout bearing

my 82 transmission wouldnt shift at all today. i know the shift fork actuates when you depress the clutch pedal, but it still wont shift. i tried several times. all the guys i talked to says its the throwout bearing, so i ordered one from the dealership. guess i have to go down and dirty next week.

First thing i would check is to make sure the clutch pedal actually is actuating shift fork. I'd start there first jsut to make sure.

Yeah, clutch hydraulics go bad easily. Check them before you tear into anything. It could be the throughout bearing, or a bad pressure plate too I guess...

Yea, what they said! Also a bad pilot bearing can cause similar symptoms.

definelty check the slave and make sure the shaft is extending when the pedal is pushed in.

it takes only a few minutes to unbolt, or you can have somebody look at it while you press in the clutch

yeah, thats right. and don't you forget it.

how old is your clutch? has it been making noises for awhile? damn, i've only had one throw out berring go out on me befor the clutch plate. that was in an 94 chevy s-10 4x4. it made noises for 3 years befor it finaly went. went bad too. anytways, just my sugestion. it don't take long to pull the tranny( if you have to). replace the whole clutch setup if your gonna tear it apart. unless you just replaced it a year or maybe 2 ago.

already checked the shift fork/master cylinder. the cylinder looks new and the shift fork actuates when depressing the clutch pedal. everything seems to be working fine, except that it wont go into gear no matter what i do. the clutch was replaced about a month ago so i dont think that is the problem. im just gonna take the transmission off next week and check everything and go from there.

thanks for all your inputs...

yea, that was what i was thinking. maybe they replaced the clutch disk and nothing else. since i gotta take the transmission down, might as well inspect whatever i can before putting it back into place. im just glad its not my daily driver or i would really be in some really deep ****.

I had a similar problem when I got my '80. Turned out to be a bad pilot bearing that was grabbing the input shaft and turning it making it hard to get in gear. When I seperated the motor from the tranny, all the needle rollers fell out right in my face.

finally found what was wrong with it. took the tranny off 2 days ago and the clutch disc just fell off in different pieces when i took the cover off. the fingers on the pressure plate was all bent too. the flywheel feels smooth though but i just might go ahead and have it done too. do you guys think i should get the flywheel done? and what is a good replacement clutch? the car is still stock so i dont need racing setups yet... a good oem replacement should do at this point. im a little tight on the money issue so compromises need to be made.
