throw out bearing??

sorry, to make a post out of old stuff....

i have searched around but came up with nothing particularly useful....my throw-out bearing is very noisy, however, when clutch is pushed in-quiet... out---noisy. since I have re-done the CARB, the car pulls like mad and bangs 3rd pretty hard....so, i'm thinking the clutch and pressure pate are solid? Although, it has a 'short shift' item (previously installed) , and could shift more smoothly (I believe the roughness is from a whooped out throw-out bearing).??
any suggestions will be helpful....thx.

Could also be a worn out trans input shaft bearing or housing. This housing is the aluminum tube which allows for the throwout bearing to slide back and forth with the clutch, so when that tube gets worn, it will allow excess play in the bearing and makes noise as you stated. The telling part is that it's only noisy with the clutch OUT, as noise from the clutch IN would be Pilot Bearing. Hope it's the front cover, or you may have a bad input shaft bearing and a trans rebuild in your future...

Looks like this:

What you are describing is a faulty throwout bearing. You'll want to replace the disc, pressure plate, and the pilot bearing when you replace the throwout bearing. There's no reason to remove the transmission and not replace the disc, pressure plate, and pilot bearing, especially if you can't verify how old they are exactly.

thanks....I know I need the throw-out bearing....the engine was overhauled 15k ago, so I assume that is how old the clutch, bearing and press plate are...
Gonna have to drop the tranny, apparently. I hope I don't have to mess with that input shaft bearing housing...lol..

thanks for the heads up....

Dont let it scare you, the trans input shaft housing is only about 4-5 bolts, and the bearing is right underneath. It's good PM to replace it for a smooth clutch action, as the Throwout Bearing has to slide across its surface. Worth doing if it's never been done,
