Throttle Cable Woes

Hey guys. When we start my first gen, the engine revs to 4-5k and stays there. If we push the accelerator down, it will go higher but we can't get it down below that. It seems like the throttle cable is all the way back, but we aren't sure. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Thanks.

You don't have cruise control do you? I had the exact same problem and it turned out to be a hosed cable from it. Also your butterflies may be sticking. Just a couple of suggestions.

Check your throttle return spring. Make sure that it's hooked up properly and is pulling the linkage back as far as it will go.

To make sure everything's good there, you can disconnect your throttle cable and push the linkage shut with your hand. If it still revs at 4k with the linkage pushed shut, there's a huge problem somewhere.

It does have cruise control. What should I be looking for in relation to that? Thanks for the help, I'm gonna try again tomorrow.

I had the same thing, and it was the cruise cable sheath catching on the linkage. I agree with viper, move the linkage by hand and observe where something might be going wrong.
