Does anyone know if I would be able to put a third gen tranni on a first gen. Its an 82 rx7 and my tranni is going out. Just wondering

 

Not without a LOOOT of work. 3rd-gens have a different clutch setup (pull-type instead of push) and they don't have transmission mounts because the PPF holds the end of the transmission.

A better swap would be the Turbo II transmission.... same strength but a lot less hassle.

 

It's a whole different setup than the 1st and 2nd Gen. The Pressure plate is different, you will need a third Gen flywheel (and 13B).

These are not the *exact* details, but it isn't worth the trouble. I asked some guru's, and realized it was not worth the effort. Internally they are the same as the TII tranny's except with WEAKER syncro's.

If you are anywhere under 220HP, Stick to a first Gen one. If not, TII tranny would be then next best upgrade.

Well when I get my turbo I guess the turbo II tranni will work just fine. I have to make due with mine for now
