Third gen plugs... Can it be done?
2nd and 3rd gen plugs are the same. You should run trailing (the 9's) on all four, thats what I'm using right now. I'm switching back to the original next time though, just to see if it makes any difference

Mine were from an N/A, Rx7 was scapped an i got the new plugs b4 it went.

As far as I know NGK is the only brand that makes em... I run the trailing platinums (stock on FD). I don't know if they really give you any power or anything, but they're one step colder so should be more detonation resistant. As well, the platinums apparently last a lot longer.

Surprisingly not that expensive, I don't remember exactly but I don't think they were that much more than the usual 8EQs. The hard part is finding a Mazda dealer that'll be willing to sell you 4 trailing plugs, because they usually stock them in sets for the FC/FD guys. I had to call 3 different dealers before I found one that would do it. Mazda dealers are total clowns, I couldn't believe they were actually refusing to sell me sparkplugs lol.
The 9s don't really give any more power, just last longer. Of course I just picked up a set of platinum 8's and I don't think I've ever been able to find the platinums before now, so I guess these should last longer too. Maybe I'll go 4 or 5 oil changes instead of 3 this time.
I've been using the second gen platinum tip from ngk and my car runs much better and they last twice as long if not more than the stock ones. I am runing them as part of a direct fire setup with a Jacobs Rotary Pack and a Rev-Tech motorcycle performance coil and my car runs great...

you can try any of the coils that are in this link. Just make sure they are for electronic ignitions and not for points... I just chose that one for the high output 40k plus...

That's what I said. Dude, the number on the spark plugs is the heat range spec. 9 is colder than stock, 7 is a hotter plug and that's why I didn't want to run it. If the 9 doesn't foul, I don't see why you would want to run the 7.
Someone wanna explain the sparkplug numbers to me?? I assume that one part might be the thread refference, another the length of the plug, and also the heat range?? Am I even close??

I know Ive seen people selling differnt plugs for different driving applications...My car hasnt had a running engine the whole time I've had it (only about a week) so Ive never had to mess with plugs. Ive never changed the plugs in the other two because they seem to run fine the way the are...Ill get to all of them with new plugs after I get a job though. Any suggestions on brand? Im kinda partial to NGK, always had good things with them in my dirtbikes and what-not.
